Individual Therapy
My aim is to create a safe, non-judgemental space where clients feel able to openly discuss their struggles, fears, and challenges. I see counselling as a potential catalyst for change, with the client always at the centre of the process—free to choose their own path rather than follow a rigid set of guidelines. I offer unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuine understanding throughout our work together. My background includes supporting individuals with autism, ADHD, mental health challenges, and disabilities, which informs my inclusive and understanding approach.
Addiction
I bring over 30 years of experience working within adult social care, including extensive work with addiction and the impact it can have on wellbeing and daily life to my counselling practice. In my work, rather than focusing solely on the addiction itself, I take a person-centred approach to addiction and support clients in exploring the wider issues and experiences that may sit alongside it. I believe this broader understanding can be key to meaningful and lasting change.
Addiction can take many forms and I understand how it can develop as a response to the stresses of everyday life—a way to relax, cope, or simply unwind. However, I also recognise how these coping mechanisms can gradually become a crutch and over time, dependency can build. It is often only when someone tries to make a change that they realise how difficult that can be.
I also acknowledge that some forms of addiction may require additional support from medical professionals. Where appropriate, I encourage clients to complement counselling with other treatments, while making it clear that my service is not diagnostic and participation in additional support is always their choice.
